Originariamente un brano dei Three Dog Night, gruppo USA prevalentemente vocale della fine degli anni ’60 che ha avuto un certo successo, Easy to be hard è stato poi inserito nella colonna sonora del musical Hair e nella sua versione per il cinema diretta da Milos Forman.
Nel film viene cantata da Cheryl Barnes, cantante nota più che altro per questa interpretazione, che ha richiesto una sola registrazione, appunto quella presente nella scena del film.
